Crossover
At the Shanghai Auto Show 2019, the Chinese company GAC, under its new sub-brand Aion, introduced the LX electric crossover. This is the second electric model after the S sedan. Sales in the domestic market of China started in October 2019. Like the S sedan, the novelty can use solar cells, which ensure the energy efficiency of the cabin ventilation system and reduce the power required for charging. An advanced safety package includes autonomous emergency braking. In a high-performance top-of-the-line 80D with two electric motors front and rear for all-wheel drive, the crossover is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Externally, the GAC Aion LX shows a resemblance to a sedan, expressed in the form of head optics, but unlike the Aion S, the strip connecting the headlights is wider here, and the lower part of the bumper has an original design with the addition of a silver imitation of protection. The black contours of the lining on the arches and sills, the discs with a special complex pattern, also stand out. Thanks to the rising shoulder line in profile, the crossover looks dynamic and powerful. Black inserts on the C-pillars, creating the effect of a "floating" roof, can be made in a different color for individuality. The rear lights use a three-dimensional shape and are connected by a light strip across the entire width of the trunk. Inside, the GAC Aion LX boasts leather and Alcantara upholstery, a high-tech dashboard in which the LCD instruments and the media system screen form a single slightly curved surface. In the basic configuration there is an electric drive of the front seats, a multifunction steering wheel, a navigation system. The top level includes electric steering and position memory.
The GAC Aion LX crossover is based on the same GEP (GAC Electric Platform) modular platform as the Aion S sedan, but here it is stretched - the wheelbase has been increased to 2920 mm (for the sedan 2750 mm). It is also noteworthy that the GAC Aion LX received a multi-link rear suspension (the sedan has a torsion beam at the rear). By the way, on the basis of the Aion LX chassis, the Hycan 007 electric crossover, a joint project of GAC and NIO, was developed, but it turned out to be even a little longer. However, the Aion LX also has sufficient interior space, despite the fact that the dimensions of the electric car are not so bulky: body length 4786 mm, width 1935 mm, height 1685 mm.
In terms of safety, the GAC Aion LX has all the necessary modern equipment. Basic features include anti-lock brakes (ABS) with brake force distribution (EBD), traction control and stability control, an automatic parking brake and hill start assist. Along the perimeter of the cabin there are six airbags (front, front side, curtains). There is rear parking sensors and a camera. Expensive equipment will offer blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and active emergency braking.
GAC Aion LX will offer its customers an exquisite interior, all modern comfort and safety technologies, while having a relatively affordable (compared to the same Tesla) price. Over 4,000 Aion LXs have been sold in China in 2019-2020. In 2021, GAC introduced an updated version called the Aion LX Plus, improving the crossover in all respects, while in the new top version with a 144 kWh battery, the claimed mileage is increased to 1008 kilometers.
