The Aion S electric sedan debuted in 2018 and was the first model of a new sub-brand owned by GAC. Three years later, a modernized version was presented, which received the additional designation Plus. In terms of design, the engineers improved the aerodynamics using the same approach that was demonstrated in the GAC Eno.146 concept electric car. Implemented solutions include a sharper nose with a completely new and functional bumper design, different wheel design and aerodynamically improved sill shape, as well as retractable door handles.

The update also affected the interior. The new front panel is even more technologically advanced, physical controls have been reduced to a minimum, and most functions are now accessible through the ADiGO 4.0 on-board intelligent interaction ecosystem menu, including air conditioning settings. It is controlled by a stand-alone 14.6-inch screen. The system supports wireless software update, cloud services, remote management, etc. The sedan now has a new steering wheel; the rotary selector on the central tunnel controls the transmission modes. The electric car was equipped with a large glass panoramic roof with an area of ​​1.9 sq.m. with electrochromatic change in transparency level (from 10% to 60%).

Having presented the updated sedan, the developers did not change anything in the design of its suspension: there are independent MacPherson struts at the front and a semi-independent torsion beam at the rear. All versions of the Aion S Plus, like the previous model, remain only front-wheel drive. Compared to its predecessor, the external dimensions of the sedan have changed slightly: the redesigned bumpers add a few centimeters to the length - now it is 4810 mm. The body height is 1530 mm instead of the previous 1545 (this is probably reflected in the ground clearance). The width has the same size - 1880 mm. The wheelbase of the sedan is 2750 mm. Trunk volume - 453 liters.

The top-of-the-line GAC Aion S Plus offers Level 2 autopilot with at least ten active safety features. In addition, smart comfort and safety technologies available for the sedan include remote unlocking, remote parking, key sharing and other features.

Previously, the GAC Aion S was considered one of the most popular models in China. The new GAC Aion S Plus promises to be even more successful. For example, in March 2023, the sedan took third place in the ranking, with a record high of more than 26,000 cars sold in a month. Note that the sedan belongs to the European D-segment and offers a comfortable interior, it looks interesting externally and internally. It can be considered as a Tesla Model 3 competitor.
