The GAC Aion S all-electric sedan is the first of the new GAC Group sub-brand. The premiere of the model took place in November 2018 at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The GAC claims that the Aion S has a drag coefficient of 0.245, which is comparable to the parameters of the Tesla Model 3. The car features a stylish design with a streamlined front panel that includes complex LED headlights, a "fang-shaped" trim on the lower part of the bumper. The sloping roof flows down smoothly to the stern, leaving a small trunk tail. Aion S is the first electric car in China to use solar cells to keep the interior ventilation system energy efficient and reduce the power required for charging. The electric car is offered with different performance and autonomy options.

Inside, the GAC Aion S tries to look as luxurious as a modern executive sedan should. Interior panels are trimmed with leather and aluminum. There are two large color widescreen screens, one of which is a digital instrument cluster. The media system provides voice integration; with which you can control various functions of the electric vehicle. The standard equipment of the sedan includes a keyless entry system, climate control with a separate setting for the driver / passenger, with touch controls, full power accessories, heated exterior mirrors, a multifunction steering wheel, Bluetooth. A more expensive version includes electric adjustment of the driver's seat, automatically folding mirrors.

Despite the declared class of an electric vehicle, GAC did not begin to complicate the suspension design. Front is the usual version of independent suspension on MacPherson struts. Behind it is still simpler - a torsion beam. The electric car was equipped with front brakes with ventilated discs and solid discs at the rear. Wheel size - 215/55 R17 or 235/45 R18, depending on the configuration. Sedan body dimensions - 4768 x 1880 x 1530 mm (length, width, height). Wheelbase - 2750 mm. The luggage compartment has a volume of 453 liters.

In terms of safety, the electric car has all the necessary modern equipment. Basic features include anti-lock brakes (ABS) with brake force distribution (EBD), traction control and stability control, an automatic parking brake and hill start assist. Rear parking sensors and a reversing camera are also standard. The car can be fitted with four to six airbags. Level 2 autonomous driving features appear on higher-end versions, which include smart cruise control and smart parking assistance.

The GAC Aion S electric car was created no less than as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3, and its main advantage is a much lower price. The electric car belongs to the European D-segment and offers a quite comfortable interior, looks interesting externally and internally. In 2021, the updated Aion S Plus model is released.
